A 52 year-old male patient was treated with LASIK surgery 12 years ago and has not experience any signs of side effects after. In about a year ago, he began to experience blurry vision and was diagnosed with cataract on the both eyes. The patient then went through a cataract surgery on the left eye. However, he still experienced blurry vision after the surgery and was then diagnosed with advanced glaucoma and optic nerve atrophy on the left eye after a series of checkups and examinations. With a subjective refraction of -7.00D/ -1.0D x 165 (right eye) and -3.00D/ -1.25D x 125 (left eye), the best corrected visual acuity is 0.6 and 0.1 on the right and left eyes respectively.
As the corrected vision was not good on the left eye, the fitting of contact lens was only applied on the right eye. The central part of cornea was flattened after the LASIK surgery (Figure 1) and the topography was shown in Figure 2. The limbal RGP lens was customized based on the corneal curvature of the patient through the corneal topography. It provided the patient with best comfort and visual acuity. The patient’s best corrected visual acuity was 0.8 with our limbal RGP lens (Figure 3).
Figure 1. The central curvature of cornea appears to be flatter than regular cornea due to LASIK surgery.
Figure 2. The corneal topography of right eye after LASIK surgery which shows a flattened center surrounded by a purple and red colored circle. The purple and red area of the cornea appeared to be more steepening than the center.
Figure 3. The fluorescein pattern of limbal RGP lens on this patient is similar to the fluorescein pattern of orthokeratology.
